  • CAMERON — A sweep of the singles powered the Chillicothe High School tennis Hornets to another Midland Empire Conference dual-match victory yesterday.
Visiting Cameron, the Hornets won four of the six singles sets handily and No. 1 player Wade Dietz edged the Dragons’ Jake Smith 8-6 as Chillicothe improved to 6-1 in full-length duals, 4-0 in conference duals, and 8-2  in all duals.
“I'm proud of these boys. They've exceeded all expectations this year,” Hornets head coach?Aaron?Douglas said.
Still remaining in conference play for the net Hornets are a road match at St. Joseph:?lafayette and a home clash with Maryville next week. Both of those squads battled Savannah, who the Hornets shaded 6-3 last week, on close terms, so the Chillicothe boys still have work to do to claim the MEC team crown.
They advanced that cause solidly yesterday.
In singles, Chillicothe No. 6 player Jeremiah Applebury scored the match’s most-lopsided triumph, defeating Jeremiah?Barnes 8-1 to improve his season record in singles to 6-2.
