  • TRENTON — A squad integrating experienced veterans who have a record of accomplishment with newer talent was successful Saturday in extending the era of regional success of the Southwest Livingston High School girls’ track-and-field program. Next, they’ll try to earn the opportunity to have a reasonably-good chance to follow up on their success at the state level.
Led by senior Cori Locker’s individual “double” in the high jump and discus throw, which she supplemented with participation in two winning relay races, Southwest Livingston’s Lady Wildcats repeated as Class 1 district champions a third time by accumulating 96 team points in the District 6 meet at C.F. Russell Stadium.
They finished 20 points ahead of Princeton, with three other C-T-area teams – Mendon: Northwestern, Braymer, and Stet, respectively – filling the Nos. 3-5 slots in the team standings.
“All the kids performed at their best today and were amazing to watch,” Lady?Wildcats coach?Marj Locker saluted both the SLHS girls and boys. (Boys’)?Coach (Julie) Bothwell and I are very proud of their performances.”
The district meet serves as the first of two steps for track-and-field athletes to take to gain the right to compete in the state championships in Jefferson City weekend after next (May 18-19).
