Early-morning rain which swept across St. Joseph forced postponement of Saturday's scheduled first-round games in the Class 3 District 16 Tournament. All first-round (quarterfinal) games were moved back to Monday with two game sites to be utilized, instead of one.

The Chillicothe High School baseball Hornets' opening-round game in the Class 3 District 16 Tournament at St. Joseph had to be postponed Saturday after early-morning rain swept across St. Joseph and portions of north Missourii.

     The game between the eighth-seeded Hornets and top-seeded Savannah Savages now is slated for a new time and new location on Monday.  The teams are due to hook up for a third meeting in three weeks at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Hyde Park's Field No. 6 in south St. Joseph, a few blocks south of Benton High School. Savannah defeated the Hornets in both regular-season contests between them.

     The other game shifted to the Hyde Park site is the clash between No. 4 seed Maryville and No. 5 St. Joseph: Lafayette.  The Smithville-Cameron game and Benton-Lawson contests also postponed Saturday will remain at Phil Welch Stadium, the Benton-Lawson game going first at 4:30 p.m.  Smithville is the No. 2 seed and Benton No. 3.  The top three seeds wound up the Midland Empire Conference season sharing the league championship.
