  • Each qualifying numerous entries for next weekend's state-qualifying sectional competition, Chillicothe High School's girls' track-and-field team finished in second place and the CHS boys third in Saturday's Class 3 District 8 meet at Richmond.
Leading the Lady Hornets to their runnerup finish behind Maryville were the district-champion 400- and 800-meters relay teams and 300-meters low hurdles champion and 100-meters high hurdles runnerup Erin Gilliland. Members of the 400 relay squad were Mackenzie Barnett, Madison Williams, Olivia Hayes, and Gilliland. The 800 relay unit included the same group except for Jordyn Circo replacing Hayes.
Pacing the Hornets to their third-place showing behind champion Maryville and runnerup Platte County were junior thrower Alec Whiteside, who won the shot put and took second place in the discus throw, and another dual-events qualifier, senior thrower Spencer Hart, who was fourth in both of those events.
The sectional meet will be at Excelsior Springs next Saturday.
More details on Chillicothe's showings in the district meet will appear in Monday's print edition of the C-T.
