ST. JOSEPH — For Chillicothe High School’s soccer Lady Hornets Saturday, a first created another and an opportunity for a third and fourth.
The 6-year-old?program welcomed back to action its top scorer and starting goalkeeper just in time to post a
4-2 victory over St.?Joseph:?Benton in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 16 high school girls’ soccer tournament being hosted by?St.?Joseph:?Lafayette.
“It was our best overall performance of the year,”?Lady?Hornets head coach?Lance Harvey commented today. “We really put it together at a great time.”
The triumph – CHS’ fourth over Benton in as many tries in 2012 – was the program’s first-ever postseason win and puts them in a district-championship game for the first time. Tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Lafayette’s Alumni Stadium in north?St. Joseph, the Lady?Hornets will try to earn both their initial district title and first qualification for state tournament play when they meet Savannah.
That match will have the second-seeded Lady?Hornets (7-12) going against the 4-team tourney’s No. 4 seed after Savannah nipped top-seeded Lafayette 2-1 Saturday. However, Savannah claimed the only regular-season meeting between itself and Chillicothe with a 2-1 victory which went into a second segment of penalty-kick shootouts before being decided.
