JEFFERSON CITY — In a productive and laudable showing led by junior double-medalist Alec Whiteside, Chillicothe High School track-and-field athletes brought home medals in more than half of the events in which CHS had participants in the past weekend’s Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 3 State Championships.
With his last attempt on Saturday, Whiteside repeated his state runnerup finish of a year ago in the shot put, earning his second medal of the 2012 state meet. He’d placed seventh in the discus throw on Friday.
Also Saturday, sophomore triple jumper Lexi Snyder earned fifth place in that event for a third individual CHS top-8 finish and the girls’ 400-meters relay unit of Olivia Hayes, Madison Williams, Mackenzie Barnett, and Erin Gilliland took seventh place in the finals of that event after breaking the school record in Friday’s preliminary heat.
Those performances meant Chillicothe had participated in seven state-meet events and placed seventh or higher in four. The top eight finishers in each event captured state medals and unofficial status as All-State performers in their respective events.
“We had a great weekend,” CHS girls’ head coach?Karen?Jackson commented to the C-T Monday, her words summarizing both teams’ perceptions.
