Registration is underway for a Fall Walking Challenge to be held September 3rd (Labor Day) through October 28th. The challenge is part of Livingston County Health Center's "Walk Chillicothe" Project, funded by a Healthy Eating, Active Living grant through Healthy Partnerships, a partnership of the Heartland Foundation, Heartland Health and North Kansas City Hospital.
Those interested can sign up now through Labor Day to participate in the challenge. Those who are attending the Labor Day 2K Fun Walk/5K Run can sign up for the challenge at the race registration table, online or at the health center, located at 800 Adam Drive.
The requirements are simple: pledge to walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Record walking on an exercise log and turn it in after the 8 weeks to be eligible for the prize drawing. Even if you fall short of your goal, every entry submitted will be put in the drawing.
The walking challenge is an attempt to get people motivated to start a walking habit that will be established after the eight week period. Incentives will be offered along the way to encourage participants to continue walking for their health.
Participants will be asked to complete a couple short surveys about the walkability of their neighborhood and the effectiveness of the challenge to submit for grant purposes.
If you would like to sign up for the challenge, call 646-5506 or visit our website at livcohealthcenter.com. You can also stop by our office at 800 Adam Drive to register and pick up an exercise log while you're here!
