The Chillicothe Cross Country teams were in action for the first time of the year on Thursday at the Maryville Invitational. Sixty-one varsity boys, thirty-four varsity girls and forty-five JV boys took to the hard course on a hot, windy, dry day.

The Chillicothe boys team placed fourth out of the eight team event. Andrew Jensen placed 10th with a time of 19:08 in the 5k event. Derek Eckert place 27th with a time of 20:56, followed by Kolby Eller who placed 35th, Hunter Burton placed 47th, Levi Weese placed 51st and Nathan Hollis placed 54th.

"I was glad to see Andrew finish in the top 10. This is his senior year and I'm excited about his possibilities," commented Coach Riekena.

Brittany Stanfield place 28th for the Lady Hornets and Jacob McCullough placed 37th in the JV boys 3200 meter run, with Austin Mosier placing 40th.

"We're considered to be an inexperienced team. But I was pleased to see the varsity boys place 4th in their first meet of the season," said Riekena.
