The 28th Annual Chautauqua in the Park, sponsored by Hedrick Medical Center, is this weekend, and preparations are in full swing. The Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce and the Chillicothe Area Arts Council present this celebration each year, and are planning on a weekend full of food, fun, and entertainment.

Chautauqua's hours are Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Simpson Park.

A parking shuttle will run from the Citizens Bank parking lot in downtown Chillicothe to Simpson Park from 9:30 a.m., until 3:45 p.m., on Saturday only. Grand River Healthcare will be volunteering their vans and employees' time to provide the shuttles for the community. The weather forecast is calling for clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Vendor booths will be set up throughout the Chautauqua hours. Here's a look at the schedule of events for the stage entertainment and story tellers:

11:15 a.m. — Announcement of the of Students' Choice and Best in Show Awards;

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — Drum Safari with Brandon Draper— for elementary students and adults;

12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — Meller Fellers — Clive Renfro & John Hesler — blues, jazz, country and oldies;

1:30 p.m. — Home of Sliced Bread – Bread Baking Contest Winners Announced;

1:45 to 3:45 p.m. — Medicine Creek Country Music Band;

4 to 5 p.m. — Jesse Lee (musician and composer) — country, bluegrass, and rock 'n' roll;

5 to 5:30 p.m. — Tribe of Mic-O-Say Dancers.


10 to 11:30 a.m. — Kindred Spirits — bluegrass Gospel;

11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — Mike Hibner and Angel Dennis — Gospel and contemporary Christian music;

12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — Gorsett Twins: Jenny & Patty Jo (composers/performers) — folk and contemporary music;

1:45 to 3:30 p.m. — Cheap Guitars — Country and Blues;

3:30 p.m. — People's Choice Award Announced.
