Think Local… Buy Local…. Be Local: Local First – that's the slogan two Chillicothe organizations are using to remind people how important it is to spend locally.

Main Street Chillicothe and the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce are raising awareness for this program as family gatherings and holiday shopping draw closer.

"We want to remind people how important it is to shop here in Chillicothe first – before driving somewhere else or purchasing online," explains Lindy Chapman, executive director of the Chillicothe Area Chamber of Commerce. "We understand not everything can be found locally, but it is amazing the wide variety that is here when you just take the time to look."

This Local First Campaign was created to boost local sales, create local awareness of the benefits of spending locally, and positively impact our business community. Serving as the next generation of the well known Chillicothe's Got It program, Local First takes advantage of new marketing tools including social media to help keep local businesses competitive.

"Through this program, any businesses located within the Chillicothe city limits can join this membership based program and reap the benefits of helping to boost the local economy for only $25 annually," said Crystal Narr, executive director of Main Street Chillicothe.

There will be several campaigns and events run throughout the year in which member businesses will be able to take part – including the return of the popular "Black & Red" Friday on Nov. 16, as well as Love Your Local Business in February, a short Chillicothe-produced video in the mid-to-late summer, and some new promotions designed to spotlight restaurants and stores.

All businesses and organizations are welcome to participate – retail, service, non-profit, commercial or industrial.

"We are hoping to find members who are committed to keeping people thinking and spending locally," said Chapman.
