I have to get this on here for those of you that have never been to the Haunted Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. If you are looking for a great Halloween scare try this on for size. Get your big boy or girl pants on you will need them!!!

Visitors from all over come to the historic Ohio State Reformatory to get their scare on.

Those that visit the Haunted Prison Experience in Mansfield, Ohio will not see Casper or any friendly ghosts but will have the ultimate haunted house adventure.

What is around the next corner...?Anything could be lurking behind the bars, in the corridors or nooks and crannies during of the Ohio State Reformatory. The historic site is transformed into a haunted adventure that is not your typical haunted house. Well known stunt coordinator and film producer, Myron St. John is the creative designer that is dedicated to giving you a chill. His company, Haunted X Enterprises LLC, reforms the prison each October into what St. John states is where the special FX meets the supernatural. This reformatory not only houses actors, animatronics and props but it is said that there are spirits present of some who once occupied the six stories of cell blocks. The haunted trek throughout the prison stone walls will thrill visitors for the full 45 minutes of their haunted experience. Learn more about the haunted prison.

The Reformatory
The prison doors closed to prisoners in 1990 after housing over 155,000 men throughout the years. It remains open for visitors and is a popular place for filming movies, TV and music videos including Shawshank Redemption, Air Force One and Tango and Cash. The architecture of the building is done with three different styles including Victorian Gothic, Richardsonian Romanesque and Queen Anne. The idea behind the design was to encourage prisoners to have a rebirth of their spiritual lives and inspire them to turn their lives from sin.

More Spirits

If walking the halls of the haunted experience is not enough adrenalin the reformatory offers paranormal trips of several different kinds. Spending the night in a dark 250,000 square foot prison with only a flashlight takes visitors on the quest to find the spirits that reportedly roam the prison. This trip is for those over 21 only and does include pizza and refreshments. A two hour nighttime, ghost walk guided tour for ages 12 and older takes adventurous visitors into the dark halls and corridors of the reformatory, visiting the hot spots where reports have been made about paranormal activity. Hear the stories of what people have experienced and of murder and death that cause many to believe the prison is haunted. The building contains hazards including, but not limited to: steep steps, uneven surfaces and lead-based paint. It is not recommended for pregnant women.

Tours

There are other tours available for those who would like to see the inside of the historic reformatory without the darkness and spirits. Learn the history and see where the Shawshank Redemtion was filmed. Visit the website Mrps.org for times and dates of tours.
