This morning, at approximately 7:15 a.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Chillicothe Police Department conducted a seatbelt and child restraint enforcement detail. The operation was set to target parents and young drivers who were not using proper vehicle restraints for themselves and/or their child passengers.
This operation was conducted by Field School, near the intersection of Maple and 10th streets. It was targeted for the drivers delivering children to Field School, and was conducted for approximately 45-minutes.
During this check point, officers and troopers together made 11 total contacts. Of these contacts, the following dispositions were attained:
• 15 citations, including eight for a child under the age of 16 without a safety belt, one for an adult without a safety belt (driver), one driving while suspended, one no insurance, two for under the age of eight without a seat belt, one felony arrest for a warrant on passing bad checks, and one window tint violation;
• and two warnings for no proof of insurance.
The purpose of this enforcement operation was to ensure safety of the drivers, passengers, and children of the vehicles. Additional enforcement operations have been planned for different locations in and around the high-traffic areas of city school zones, and will be conducted at a later date.
