A sure sign that Christmas is right around the corner will take place this Friday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. when the Jenkins Townhouse Lighting Ceremony is held.

Santa and some of his friends will be on hand as a Chillicothe R-2 student turns on the lights for the holiday season at the Christmas display at the Jenkins Townhouse on Cherry Street, just west of Hy-Vee in Chillicothe.

The program will begin with master of ceremonies Mayor Chuck Haney welcoming the crowd. The Central School Stingers, under the direction of Music Teacher Dan Venner, will perform a number of holiday songs for the crowd. Santa will arrive with some of his friends and, with the help of Quentin Cranmer, a third grader from Field Elementary School, the lights will be turned on. Quentin is the son of Roman and Janilla Cranmer.

Attendees of the program are encouraged to stay after the lighting ceremony and walk through the Jenkins village display and visit with Santa. The display will be open to visitors throughout the holidays. Chillicothe Hy-Vee will again provide hot chocolate for the event.

The Chillicothe Rotary Club is organizing this year's event with assistance from the Salvation Army.
