A Mooresville man, David A. Hightower, 46, received moderate injuries in a two vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 36, one mile east of Mooresville, at 12:40 p.m. Monday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of the highway, when Roy L. Cope, 89, of Chillicothe, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado was accelerating in the right lane, and was struck by the Hightower vehicle, a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, in the right rear corner. The Jeep went off the roadway, overturned and came to rest on its wheels off the south shoulder of U.S. 36.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken by ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center. Cope, wearing a seat belt, reportedly received minor injuries. Hightower was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
