Melvin Ray Baker, 76, of Chillicothe, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at his niece's home in Gallatin, Mo.
Melvin was born Sept. 25, 1936, to Marvin and Grace (Simpson) Baker in Cameron, Mo.
Melvin attended school at Cameron and Bethany High School. He later moved to Colorado and began his career working as a lineman for Bell West Telephone Company, where he dedicated 36 years of service. Upon retirement, Melvin moved to Gallatin, with his brother, Carl, for a couple of years, before permanently residing in Chillicothe. Melvin was a member of the Elks Lodge in Chillicothe, and also a member of the Eagle's Club.
Melvin is survived by his son, Jerry Baker of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughters, Jennifer Baker and Linda Hunter, both of Denver, Colo.; brother, Lloyd Baker of Bee Branch, Ark.; grandchildren, Rainne Birdsong, Racheal Hunter, Sarah Hunter, Jordan Baker, Dana Baker, Evan Baker; and his great-grandchildren, Trinity and Chloe.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl Baker.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
