The Chillicothe R-2 Board of Education will be holding a special public meeting at 6:15 p.m., just prior to their Tuesday (Dec. 18) regular meeting, for the purpose of determining the beginning day of school for the 2013-14 school year, in the District Headquarters along Old Hwy. 36.

"We have a [2013-14] calendar ready to be approved by the board," said R-2 Superintendent Dr. Roger Barnes on Monday morning.

Barnes explained that if a school district is planning to start school more than 10 days prior to the first Monday in September (Labor Day), law requires that they hold a public session, with the option for public comment or objections, prior to voting the decision into being.

"We would be looking at starting on Wednesday, Aug. 21[, 2013]," Barnes said. "Eleven days prior."
