  • R-2 okays 2013-14 calendar

  • The calendar of events for the 2013-14 school year was approved by the Chillicothe R-2 Board of Education of Tuesday night (Dec. 18).
    Just prior to Tuesday night's regular board meeting, a brief public hearing was held at the District Headquarters, for the purpose of discussing the suggested first day of school for next year (Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013). This hearing brought about no comments from the crowd, but was explained to be a necessary step in approving the calendar of events (per law), as the 21st is more than 10 days from Labor Day 2013 (Monday, Sept. 2, 2013).
    During the regular meeting, the calendar was approved by the board, and includes the following dates of note:
    Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013 — First Day of School
    Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 — No School, Labor Day
    Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013 — No School, Teacher In-Service Day
    Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 — Homecoming, Release at 1 p.m.
    Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 — End of First Quarter
    Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 — Parent Teacher Conferences, Early Dismissal
    Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 — No School
    Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 — No School, Teacher In-Service Day
    Nov. 27 through Nov. 29, 2013 — Thanksgiving Vacation
    Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 — Early Dismissal, Teacher In-Service Day/TOY
    Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 — Early Dismissal; End of Second Quarter
    Dec. 23, 2013 through Jan. 5, 2014 — Christmas Vacation
    Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 — Classes resume
    Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 — No School, Martin Luther King Day (First Make-up Day)
    Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 — No School, Teacher In-Service Day
    Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 — No School, President's Day (Second Make-up Day)
    Friday, March 14, 2014 — End of Third Quarter
    Thursday, March 20, 2014 — Parent Teacher Conferences, Early Dismissal
    Friday, March 21, 2014 — No School, Teacher Work Day
    Friday, April 18, 2014 — No School, Easter Break
    Monday, April 21, 2014 — No School Easter Break
    Sunday, May 18, 2014 — Graduation, 3 p.m.
    Thursday, May 22, 2014 — Early Dismissal, Last Day of School
