Lloyd Junior Martin, 76, a resident of Mercer, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at his home.
Junior was born the son of Lloyd and Hazel Martin on April 10, 1936 in Mercer, Mo. He married Erma Lee Widner in Princeton on Aug. 31, 1956.
Junior was a 1953 graduate from North Mercer School. After school Junior joined the Army in August of 1954. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas, Fort Leonard, Mo., and then in Stuggart Germany for two years.
Junior was a lifetime farmer, avid hunter and sports fan. He worked for 15 years as a hail insurance adjuster for Square Deal insurance in Des Moines. After that he worked 11 years as a security guard for Premium Standard Farms. Junior served on the Somersett Township board and North Mercer R-3 school board. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, where he served as a deacon and board member. He was also a member of the Ragan-Hickman Legion Post 477 of Mercer.
Junior is survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Kenny Martin and wife Sue, Mercer, Mo.; one daughter Cheryl Riead and husband John, Chillicothe, Mo.; two grandsons, Jarrod Martin and wife Amanda, Maxwell, Iowa, Dan Martin and wife Mindy, Mercer, Mo.; and one granddaughter, Lacey Bradford and husband Cody, Gardner, Kan.;four great-grandchildren, Kaiden Martin, Dalton Martin, Savannah Martin and Summer Martin; sisters, Shirley Vanderpool (Marvin) Bettendorf, Iowa: Nora Hayes, Princeton Mo.; brothers, Wayne Martin, Mercer, Eugene Martin, Davenport, Iowa; brother-in-law, Garry Widner (Ann), Mercer, Mo., and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Murle Dean Martin, Jimmie Martin, Cliff Martin; sisters, Edna Lee Slater, Faye McCarty
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 1 p.m., at the Mercer, Mo., Assembly of God Church with Pastors Ron Helton and Brian Burton officiating. Burial will be in the Ravanna, Mo., Cemetery. Open visitation and viewing will begin at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton where the family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening.
The family requests memorial contributions to either the Ravanna Cemetery or to Helping Hands of Mercer County. Contributions may be mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Box 316, Princeton, MO 64673.
