Will play for third place Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

ST. JOSEPH — The Chillicothe High School basketball Hornets had an outstanding defensive first half Friday night against a Falls City, Neb., Tigers squad it had big trouble keeping off the scoreboard a year ago. However, that improvement didn't translate into any better outcome for the Hornets.
Shredded by Falls City's cutting, driving offense down the stretch of last year's 20-points loss in the Bishop LeBlond Holiday Tournament, Chillicothe largely nullified that same style in Friday's meeting in the same tournament, limiting the Nebraskans to 18 first-half points, four of which were crucial "gift" points off turnovers near the end of each of the first two periods.
The problem was the Hornets' shooting was abysmal again, producing only five field goals across the first three quarters, leading to an eventual 48-32 loss.
The defeat left the Hornets (3-7) to play for third place Saturday afternoon at 3:30, while Falls City (10-0) moved on to play for the tourney championship.
