  • Daniel "Andrew" Lyzen, 102, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Fern and Ben Weeda.
    He was born Feb. 17, 1910, at Alton, Iowa, to Albert and Alice Lyzen. He married Mildred Bucy, Dec. 1, 1945 in Paris, Tenn. To this union was born one daughter.
    He spent his growing up years in Iowa after which he spent a few years in Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. He enlisted in the army where he served three and one-half years during World War II in the US and in Europe. In his youth he accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ which was the focus of his life.
    He and his wife made their home in northwest Iowa where he worked for the Central Telephone Company until he retired. In 1979 he and Mildred moved to Alliance, Neb., where they lived until Mildred died in Aug. 1984.
    On Nov. 1, 1985, he married Ethel Flair and moved to Hale, Mo., where he lived until May 2011 when he moved back to Alliance to live with his daughter and son-in-law.
    He is survived by his daughter, Fern Weeda (Ben), Alliance; three grandsons, Daniel (Donna), Betendorf, Iowa, Jim (Lynisha) and Mark (Relyssa), Sidney; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kyrie, Trey and Carter Weeda; one nephew and two nieces; his second wife Ethel of Chillicothe, Mo.; two stepdaughters Johnna Townsend, Chillicothe, Mo., and Joy (LaMont) Townsend, Scottsbluff, Neb.; and step grandchildren, JaRon, Brian, Brent, and Kyle Townsend, Janna Grieser, Junee Hetherington, Jaala Nelson, and Kyann Smith; and several step great-grandchildren and step great- great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother and first wife Mildred.
    Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012 at Bates-Gould Funeral Home in Alliance. Burial will be at the Alliance Cemetery.
    Arrangements are under the direction of Bates-Gould Funeral Home, Alliance, Iowa.
