The Chillicothe Mudcats will stay with a good thing in 2013.
After guiding the organization's fast-finishing 2012 Fish to a club-record 33 victories, Eric Peterson has been hired to return for a second season as head coach of the Chillicothe Mudcats college-level wood-bat baseball team in 2013, new team general manager Doug Doughty announced today.
"We're glad to have Eric back," states Doughty.  "He put together a team that had the second-best overall record in the MINK League last year and this coming season's team is shaping up to be as competitive and very capable of contending for the league championship."
Peterson, in his first year as director of baseball operations for the University of Kansas baseball program in his home town of Lawrence, Kan., guided last year's Mudcats to a 33-21 overall mark. That eclipsed the team's previous standard for wins in a season (32 in both 2008 and 2009).
His first Mudcats club also finished with the second-best record (23-19) in MINK League play among the eight members of the league, behind only fellow North Division member and league-championship series winner St. Joseph.
Says Peterson, "The reason I chose to come back this coming summer is easy.  The community, the organization and the people who make up Chillicothe Mudcats baseball!  I loved working there.  I had no hesitation returning.
"We were able to set a franchise record in wins last summer and tie a franchise winning streak at nine games. I was very happy with our overall performance."
