CHS has only nine wrestlers in first tourney of new year
MARSHALL • Starting calendar year 2013 in less-than-auspicious manner, the Chillicothe High School Hornets had only nine of 14 possible entries in Saturday's Marshall Invitational high school wrestling tournament.
Of those 10, only two – 120-pounder Kyler Sewell and 126-pounder Thaddeus Rinehart – managed to win more bouts than they lost, each going 2-1.
According to information obtained by the C-T, Sewell placed second in his weight division, while Rinehart and 106-pounder Matt Scobee, who went 1-1, brought home third-place medals from the tourney.
Aside from their three smallest competitiors, the Hornets had only one other who managed to earn a split in the team's first competition since Dec. 15.
That was 132-pounder Aaron Baker. The freshman won his first two bouts by fall to raise his season's record to 14-0, but lost his last two Saturday, also by pins, to finish 2-2 on the day.
The CHS wrestling team will return to action Thursday at home against Brookfield. The match at the Chillicothe Middle School fieldhouse will begin at 6 p.m.
