  • Since 1970, January has been designated as National Blood Donor Month. This year, the American Red Cross thanks all blood donors for helping to ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need both locally and across the country.
On Sunday, the American Red Cross partnered with the Family Readiness Group and the National Guard Armory for a blood drive at the Armory in Chillicothe. The blood drive collected 21 pints of blood. Because each blood donation could help save up to three lives, more than 60 lives could be saved, thanks in part, to the Chillicothe blood donors.
The blood supply is particularly vulnerable during the winter months due to inclement weather, seasonal illnesses and busy holiday schedules.
