Rinehart, A. Baker, Plummer show way in quad last night

ST. JOSEPH — A freshman, a sophomore, and a junior each won all three of their bouts to lead the Chillicothe High School wrestling Hornets to a 1-2 result in the quadrangular hosted last night by St. Joseph: Benton.
Hornets Thaddeus Rinehart at 126 pounds, Aaron Baker at 132, and Luke Plummer at 195 each prevailed in every bout they had against foes from Benton, Cameron, and Smithville.
Junior Rinehart pinned all three of his opponents – twice in the second period and once in the third. Sophomore Plummer had third-frame wins by fall twice and a major decision. Frosh Baker had a win by fall and two decisions.
Team-wise, the Hornets came away 1-2, defeating Benton
46-20, while losing to Smithville 51-25 and Cameron 53-19.
Those outcomes leave Chillicothe with 12 dual-match victories and seven losses this year.
In the highlight team battle of the night, Smithville upended previously-undefeated Cam-eron 44-33. Smithville has lost only one dual this season.
For the Hornets, in addition to their three grapplers who were perfect, results-wise, on the night, 138-pounder Matt Shaffer went 2-1, earning major and regular decision triumphs, and 120-pounder Kyler Sewell won by fall and major decision to also finish 2-1.
Chillicothe’s team victory over Benton saw it lead all the way, but not clinch the win until sophomore Sewell pinned Eric Palmer at 4:32 (third period) to give the Hornets an insurmountable 40-30 lead. Rinehart then capped his perfect night with a win by fall over Elie Roster in 3:34.
A. Baker had begun the dual against the Cardinals with a 1:42 fall over Matt Garza. Shaffer followed with his decision to make it 9-0, Hornets.
Zach Daley got a forfeit win as Benton did not have anyone to wrestle at 145 pounds and freshman Wagner Chapman followed with a 7-0 shutout of Gunner Murphy to boost CHS’ early lead to 18-0.
After Benton got on the scoreboard, junior Elliott Keller stuck Taig Blum in only 45 seconds at 170 pounds. Plummer earned a 10-0 major decision over Tyler Beers and heavyweight Chance Holcer (285) took Gaige Reynolds by fall in 54 seconds to move the Hornets to the brink of victory.
Against Cameron, Plummer pinned Colby Gerber in 103 and Rinehart did the same to Logan Cantwell at 2:41 for two of the Hornets’ bout wins. A. Baker reversed Kyle Anderson for the only points of the third period to claim a 7-6 decision and Shaffer majored Austin Heldenbrand, 11-2.
