Two young men died in an automobile accident on Missouri Route 190, eight miles west of Chillicothe, Friday evening.

Killed in the accident were driver Byron A. King, 27, of Chillicothe, and passenger Dakota M. Nichols, 19, of Trenton.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 10 p.m., when the 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck they were in was traveling at a high rate of speed and became airborne. The truck landed on the roadway and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle skidded off the south side of the roadway, and struck a barbed wire fence and utility pole. The vehicle overturned numerous times, ejecting the passenger. The vehicle then struck a second utility pole, and came to rest on its wheels. King was wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident. Nichols was not wearing a safety belt, the report stated.

Both occupants were pronounced dead by the Livingston County coroner. The patrol was also assisted at the scene by the Livingston County Sheriff's office and the Chillicothe Emergency Services.
