The Livingston County Commission approved the 2013 county budget on Thursday morning, reporting "no changes" had been made to the tentative layout for such brought to them on Friday, Jan. 21.
The budget calls for $5,740,126 in total funds available, and plans for $5,435,924 in total expenditures. The ending balance for the year comes in at $304,202.
The county's budget reflects anticipated decreases in sales tax coming into the county in 2013, in the amount of 3 percent less than what was received last year. In 2012, the commission levied a property tax increase on citizens for the first time in 30 years, to offset, to an extent, the expected sales tax decrease.
No pay raises are budgeted for county employees in the 2013 budget; however, commissioners may review a possible stipend for employees toward the end of the year.
The county commission held a public hearing regarding the budget on Friday, Jan. 21. For the next 10 days, they were allowed to make changes to the tentative budget, prior to yesterday's final hearing.
