  • Opal Steen, age 101, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Indian Hills Retirement Village, Chillicothe, Mo.
    Opal was born the daughter of Charles and Belle (Starr) Benskin on Dec. 20, 1911, in Grundy Co., Mo.
    She was united in marriage to Lee Steen on Nov. 8, 1933, in Hamilton, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1996.
    Opal was a member of the Baptist Church. She was very active in the church and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She loved knitting, crocheting, and reading.
    Survivors include one daughter, Aggie Steen, of Chillicothe, Mo.; one brother, Earl Benskin and wife, Elizabeth of Chillicothe; one sister, Lucille Bradford, of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Andrea Jonson, of Kansas City, Mo., and Cameron Jonson, of Topeka, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Tori and Braxton Jonson.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Tim Steen; one brother, Russell Benskin; and sister, Irene Boyd.
    Funeral services will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. A scheduled family visitation will be Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, from 12 noon until 5 p.m.
    Burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601. Online condolences may be made at www.lindelyfuneralhome.com.
