  • All the signs seemed pointed in a favorable direction for the Chillicothe High School basketball Lady Hornets last night.
Coming off a solid-enough road win at Maryville Tuesday, a game in which they'd had well-balanced and deep scoring from everyone who saw significant playing time, the Lady Hornets were entertaining a team they'd already beaten on both the opponent's home floor and a neutral one earlier this season. Top them on the CHS hardwood and coach Rachael Parkey's up-and-down team would not only win for a second time in Midland Empire Conference competition this season, it would climb back to the .500 mark for the season at 11-11 and surpass the wins total of last year's Lady Hornets. Another dose of needed self-confidenc also would be administered as the Chillicothe girls headed toward their district tournament just over two weeks hence.
With all those positives going for them, the Lady Hornets extended their predilection for consistent offensive inconsistency, netting only 21 points through three quarters (24 minutes) on their way to a 46-36 home loss to Savannah.
"It sure is tough to beat a team three times," Parkey disappointedly reflected for the C-T after the game.
"… Tonight was important, due to the fact the game was versus not only a conference team, but a team in our district."
When the upcoming district tourney is seeded, the one less win and falling to Savannah in their most-recent meeting potentially could be the tipping point that puts Chillicothe in against a tougher opponent in its opening game, although that remains very much uncertain at the present time.
Despite the setback of the moment, CHS' third-year head coach looked ahead matter of factly and with faith that her team can still have its best days ahead of it.
"We've got some work to do at practice (today)," Parkey remarked. "I know my girls and they will bounce back. They are fighters."
