The Chillicothe R-2 Board of Education will be hearing a trio of reports and taking action upon the district's CSIP, school photo bid package, and gymnasium lighting for the Chillicothe High School during their regular monthly meeting tomorrow night (Tuesday).

Reports this month will be coming in from the Professional Development Committee, Special Education Services, and the Special Education Cooperative Services.

The Professional Development Committee is expected to report a lack of funding to teachers for workshops and graduate credit hours, as well as having several new members learning their roles on the committee.

Special Education Services will cover a report they are providing to the board regarding the R-2 special education population breakdown, as of Dec. 1, 2012; the co-teaching program recently implemented in grades 2-8; and their goal to "improve the process of evaluating data and determining needs of individualized student plans through [a] working file system and improved communication between special educators from building to building."

The Cooperative report will focus upon the help of the district's provided part-time cooperative consultant/director. R-2 has entered into a partnership with 11 other districts, involving the sharing and assistance in matters involving special education needs — the North Central Special Education Cooperative. The consultant has been helping districts recently work with DESE to complete self-monitoring and respond to filing requests for the MSIP File Review Process and District Fiscal Desk Auditing.

The board will be going over their Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) on Tuesday night. This plan includes the following goals: 1.) Develop and enhance quality educational/instructional programs to improve performance and enable students to meet their personal, academic, and career goals; 2.) Recruit, attract, develop, and retain highly qualified staff to carry out the LEA (Local Educational Agency)/District mission, goals, and objectives; 3.) Provide and maintain appropriate institutional resources, support services, and functional and safe facilities; 4.) Promote, facilitate, and enhance parent, student, and community involvement in LEA/District educational programs; and 5.) Govern the LEA/District in an efficient and effective manner, providing leadership and representation to benefit the students, staff, and patrons of the district.

R-2 appears to be currently choosing between a single-year, three-year, or five-year plan with Bailey's Photo for student pictures. Both of the multi-year plans include locked-in prices at single-year rates. The five-year plan also includes one $250 scholarship to a graduating CHS senior.

The board will choose among five vendors to replace the lights in the Chillicothe High School gymnasium: Phased Electric ($11,500), Gastineau Electric ($13,520. 21), Fellhoelter Electric ($15,799.30), Smith Electric & Design, LLC ($9,265.19), and MW Electric Supply ($12,753).

A closed executive session is planned following Tuesday's meeting, for the purpose of speaking of, voting upon, and recording items of litigation, real estate, students, and personnel (specifically, the agenda notes "retirements/resignations").
