Francis "Kelly" Smith, 53, a resident of Overland Park, Kan., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.

Kelly was born the son of Sherman and Mary Elizabeth "Connie" Smith on June 19, 1959, in Chillicothe, Mo. He married Halene Leslie Weiss on Nov. 21, 2009, where
the service was performed by a Priest and a Rabbi.

Kelly graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1977, where he was an outstanding athlete - he was honored his senior year as a Missouri All-State football player for his outstanding performance with the Chillicothe Hornets. He worked through high school and college in his family's farming operation. Following graduation from the University of Missouri-Columbia where he majored in agricultural economics, he worked in the commodities' trading industry for 20 years and more recently in billboard development industry.

His favorite sports teams were the Mizzou Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed golfing. He was a life-long practicing Catholic. He was a member of the St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Mo. Kelly most recently attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help- Redemptorist Catholic Church, Kansas City, Mo., and also The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Kansas City, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Hali Weiss Smith, of the home; brother, Sherm Smith Jr. and wife Jill; sisters, Jo Ellen Smith and Kristi Smith Wyatt and husband Jerry; in-laws, Gladys and Howard Weiss of Leawood, Kan.; sister-in-law Julie Ellis; nieces and nephews Danielle, Caleb and Sydney of Creve Coure, Mo., and Katie and Claire Wyatt of the Kansas City area. He is also survived by four-legged friends, Tango and Max.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church, Kansas City, Mo., on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. A scheduled family visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church, Kansas City, Mo., on Tuesday from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Burial will be held at St. Columban's Catholic Cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo., on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
