Class 1 state sectional games in Chillicothe delayed to Wednesday; CHS girls district semi now Thursday
As was virtually inevitable, Tuesday's high school basketball action in or involving Chillicothe fell victim to the latest snow storm.
According to Dan Nagel, Chillicothe High athletics director, the Class 1 state tournament sectional-round games to be played at CHS have been postponed 24 hours.
Meadville's and Hale's boys now will battle for a spot in Saturday's quarterfinal at Truman State University in Kirksville Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Chillicothe High gym.
Two girls' teams from Carroll-Livingston Activities Assocation, Meadville and Norborne, will play a third time at CHS at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. That winner also advances to play at Truman State Saturday.
On the district level in Class 4, Chillicothe's Lady Hornets will wait to take on host St. Joseph: Benton until Thursday because District 16 tournament administrative personnel will be occupied Wednesday hosting smaller-classification state tournament games at St. Joseph that night.
According to word sent to Nagel, all four semifinal-round games now will be played Thursday, beginning with the Lady Hornets-Benton contest at 4 p.m. The other girls' semifinal between St. Joseph: Lafayette and Smithville will follow at about 5:30.
The Lady Hornets earned their spot in the semifinals with an 11-points victory over Savannah ni the opening round this past Saturday. It was the first district win by a CHS girls team since 2005-06.
Chillicothe's boys then will face No. 1 seed Lafayette at 7 p.m., followed by the Savannah and Smithville boys at 8:30 Thursday.
The original schedule had been for the boys' semifinals only Thursday with Chillicothe, a 53-50 winner over Benton Monday evening, playing at 5 p.m. Instead, they'll now go two hours later.
The original schedule for the District 16 championship games thus remains unchanged – barring further weather-related issues. The girls' title game will be Friday night at 6 o'clock and boys' Saturday at the same hour.
