Rose Marie Mahr Burnam Arceneaux Cortez, 83, of Lafayette, La., died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at her daughter's home in South Riding, Va.

She was born on April 7, 1929, in Chillicothe, Mo., to her parents, the late Harry and Eva Mahr.

She graduated from St. Joseph Academy, Chillicothe, Mo., in 1947. Rose was a loving & generous wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Mrs. Cortez is survived by her husband, "Bootsie" Cortez; three daughters: Martha Griffith of Ala., Valorie Jarreau of Va., and Patricia DeRouen of La.; five grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three sisters: Jackie Madden, Patricia Stringer and Elizabeth "Babs" Roddy.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Waldo E. Burnam and Forrest H. Arceneaux; her parents, Eva and Herman (Harry) Mahr; and 3 siblings, Bill Mahr, Bob Mahr, and Regina Schultz.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks for your prayers and condolences during Rose's final days.

A memorial service will be Monday, March 4, 2013, at Duhon Funeral Home, Rayne, La., from 8 to 10 a.m., with a rosary at 8:30 a.m. Funeral service will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond, La., at 1 p.m.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond, where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Waldo Burnam.
