  • Farmers Market prepares for season

  • The Chillicothe Farmers Market will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, March 26 starting at 7 p.m. in the FCS Financial Building’s meeting room, 2880 Highway 65 north in Chillicothe.  Agenda items for the meeting include planning and budgeting for advertising and events, setting dues and election of officers and board.
    Anyone interested in selling processed food at the market is invited to attend the Food Vendor Certification and annual renewal session at 6 p.m. at the above location. Items such as baked goods, jams, jellies made in a home kitchen may be sold at the market once this certification requirement is fulfilled. Anyone interested in selling frozen meats is also invited to attend and learn more about requirements for sale of this product at market.
    Anyone interested in selling at the market is invited to a question and answer session to begin at 6 p.m. at the above location. Media attention on “Local Foods” has created more demand for the quality produce which Chillicothe Farmers Market has a 26-year history of offering, said Market Master Beth Weidner.
    The Market has open memberships for new growers and producers to help meet the increased demand.
    “The Q&A Session will be an opportunity to learn from experienced marketers about everything from packaging and pricing to health department requirements,” Weidner said.  Resource and informational handouts will be available.  
    All bonafide growers and producers of quality goods from Livingston and the surrounding Green Hills counties are welcome to attend the meeting and to sell at the market. Products that can be sold at the market include all locally grown, whole, fresh vegetables and fruits in season or extended season, herbs and spices, plants, flowers, specialty or value added products (honey, jams etc.), fresh whole eggs, frozen meats, baked items, and arts and crafts that are grown, processed or produced by the member.
