Governor Holden, NC, removed by impeachment
During the years of Reconstruction, Governor William Woods of North Carolina was impeched and removed from the office of Governor on March 22, 1871. Although it was not the first time a governor had been impeached, it was the first time a governor had been convicted and removed from office.
