Still in search of their first 2013 triumph as they took the pitch a fourth time, the Chillicothe High School soccer Lady Hornets returned to Bob Fairchild Field at the new Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium to start a new month yesterday and found some offense at last.
Hosting St. Joseph: Benton after being shut out in their first three matches, including an unreported 10-0 loss at Excelsior Springs last Thursday, the Lady Hornets did not disappoint the home fans as a pair of sophomores – Lindy Saunders and Samantha Baldwin – treated them to 2-goal games each and CHS claimed that initial victory, 4-2.
"This was the first game that we looked really comfortable at our positions," reacted Lady Hornets head coach Lance Harvey. "Our midfield was outstanding – Leslee Mehrhoff-Moore, Megan Dominique, and Brooke Thomas all had great games.
"Our offense was aggressive and our defense, with the exception of a couple of hiccups, played well."
Chillicothe (1-3) will try to make it two wins in a row at home this afternoon, hosting Kansas City Lutheran in a varsity-only 4:30 p.m. match on the artificial surface at Litton Stadium.
