Seniors Brooks Sturm and Katie Milanovich were crowned prom king and queen at the Chillicothe High School Junior/Senior “Cirque du Magnifique” held Saturday.
Around 140 couples went through the traditional Grand March, which began at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. Announcing the couples were Bridgett Kieffer, senior class president, and Kolby Eller, junior class president.
Each couple, as announced, walked through a bold circus tent, and then proceeded to either side of the stage. Couples then made their way up the center aisles of the PAC. The stage was decorated in silhouetted displays of circus animals.
Chillicothe High School junior class sponsors Stacy Surber and Lisa Rule gave the welcome. A stilt walker and fire breather, entertainers from Creative Carnivals and Events out of Overland Park, performed prior to the Grand March.
The dance was held at the Jenkins Expo Center on the Litton Ag Campus. The room was decorated in a large red, yellow and white circus tent in which the CHS juniors and seniors, along with their dates, danced beneath.
Project Prom was held at the Fast Lanes bowling alley and the Grand 6 Theater. One hundred students attended the after prom party that went until 3 a.m.
Students checked in at the registration table and starting eating pizza, bowling, and playing in the Sumo wrestling suits.
“With several faculty members and senior parents to help, we were able to supervise all areas needed, plus send adults to the Grand six movie theater with approximately 65 kids,” stated Angela Peterson, Project Prom sponsor.
At the end of the night, prizes were drawn with the biggest prize of the iPad going to Caitlin Clark.
“All students were able to leave with a prize thanks to the support of our wonderful community,” said Peterson.
