  • At 3 p.m., Sunday, April 28, the Chillicothe Area Arts Council will present the Bluestem Cowboy Band at the Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center in Chillicothe as part of the 2012-13 arts performance series. For many years Bluestem was the house band for "The Good Time Radio Review", a live radio show on National Public Radio. They have performed at music festivals throughout the Midwest, and have given concerts for the past thirty years.
"If you look over their website," arts council administrator Julie Ashbrook said, "you can see pretty fast that they are a fun-loving group of guys. Their individual bios say things like, 'Keith Alberding: sings so high at times only dogs and other banjo players can hear. Plays banjo, guitar, and sings tenor,' or 'Jim Rood: his fiddle playing usually makes women move away, old men spit and little children cry. Plays fiddle, guitar, and sings baritone and tenor,' so you have to believe the show will be fun," Ashbrook said. "The band combines Western, bluegrass and gospel to create a blend of unique acoustic music. With 30 years of experience playing music around the Midwest, we think Bluestem will give us a great performance," she said.
The box office will open at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Adult tickets are $15 and student tickets are $7. Season ticket holders will be admitted with their season pass.
