A sinkhole — about 10 feet across and 10 feet deep — has emerged on the links of Chillicothe Country Club.
Golf Course Superintendent Daniel Cordray discovered the hole while doing morning rounds last week Tuesday. He had mowed over that area just two days prior. The hole is southwest of the No. 9 green, about 40 yards from the green. Heavy rains are believed to have led to the ground’s final collapse.
The country club is now in the process of going through bids with excavators to determine how to best proceed with repairs.
“It is an issue we are going to have to take care of,” Cordray said.
He said they are still looking at options and may consider building a pond in that area to also assist with drainage.
The superintendent noted that it is possible another area nearby has experienced erosion and may need to be addressed.
