  • Chillicothe and the surrounding areas were without electricity for most of Friday morning after an early spring storm dumped more than four inches of snow.

  • Chillicothe and the surrounding areas were without electricity for most of Friday morning after an early spring storm dumped more than four inches of snow. Traffic lights were out throughout town as of about 9 a.m., according to Officer Jodi Keller, of the Chillicothe Police Department. She also stated that officers were out at the major intersections directing traffic.
    Classes at Chillicothe R-2 schools remained in session throughout the morning although the buildings were without power. Classes dismissed at 1 p.m. Southwest R-1 School had called off classes due to no power.
    Farmer's Electric Cooperative reported that more than 400 customers had called and were without power throughout their nine-county service area due to heavy, wet snow. At 1 p.m., several hours later, a reported 1,100 were without power, according to an undate on FEC's Facebook page. FEC spokeswoman Chasity Anderson stated that approximately 24 electric poles were reported down in eastern Caldwell, eastern Ray, western Carroll and Livingston, and eastern Livingston counties as of early this morning. As the morning progressed, that number seemed to be on the rise.
    FEC also reported that all of its service trucks were out doing what they could to restore power and that additional crews had been called in.
    Gary Webb recalled at the C-T this morning that he remembered the last May snow back in 1953. He said he recalled as a 9-year-old on the last day of school, May 2, 1953, that a narrow band of snow dumped two to three inches of snow in Ludlow.
    FEC asked that their customers continue to be patient and to call for additional power outages or questions at 1-800-927-5334. FEC is also updating their service area with feeds to their Facebook page.
