JEFFERSON CITY — Representative Mike Lair, R-Chillicothe, has been elected to chair the Joint House/Senate Education Committee for 2013-2014.
“I am excited and humbled to have been chosen by my peers for the leadership of the Joint Committee,” said Lair. “When your fellow members ask you to lead them devoid of politics and partisanship, it is indeed special.”
The Joint Committee is charged with studying and implementing aspects of Missouri’s education establishment, both K-12 and Higher Ed. The chairmanship rotates between the House and Senate. The committee is made up of seven members of each the House and the Senate and is designed to operate both during the interim between sessions as well as during the session itself. The Committee recently finished creating a funding formula for Higher Education under the able leadership of Senator David Pearce.
The subjects of this year’s study will be decided by Chairman Lair during the next three weeks and announced along with the interim meeting schedule in early June. Lair represents Grundy, Linn, and Livingston counties.
