Several band students were honored Wednesday evening at Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center during the spring concert presented by Chillicothe High School’s instrumental music department.
The evening included several pieces performed by the Chillicothe High School jazz and symphonic bands as well as from soloists. Sarah Cavanah and Joe Hull are the school’s band directors.
The evening concluded with the distribution of several awards.
Presented the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was senior trombonist Brooks Sturm. Senior clarinetist Anna Pitchford received the John Philip Sousa Award. Senior percussionist Caela Ashford received the Charles W. (Bill) Maupin Award, instituted in the mid-1990s in honor of the former long-time CHS instrumental music teacher. Honored as the CHS instrumental music program's Most Improved members this year were flutist Sarah Belvel and trumpeter Zach Holland. Named the most outstanding members for the respective underclasses were junior trombonist Matthew Sturm, sophomore tenor saxophonist Brooke Nelson, and freshman clarinetist Claire Chapman.
Wednesday night’s concert was dedicated to the senior band members. They are Ashley Blakely, Pitchford, Aaron Skipper, Hannah Eckert, Sarah Johnson, Sierra Midgyett, Steffany Gramenz, Tanner Jones, Katie Milanovich, Chelsea Price, B. Sturm, Olivia Hayes, Lizzie McCoy, Jonathan Arthaud, Ashford, and Andrew Jensen.
