Main Street Chillicothe activity celebrates historic preservation

How well do you know your downtown? In observance of Historic Preservation Month, Main Street Chillicothe is conducting an Architectural Scavenger Hunt of various elements found on downtown buildings.
Downtown Chillicothe is rich in historic architectural treasures, says Main Street Chillicothe Director Crystal Narr. The Courthouse Square Historic District and the Commercial Historic District along with individual buildings, are recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. To celebrate these listings, Main Street is hosting the scavenger hunt.
The contest can be found on Page 2 of today’s newspaper. It consists of 11 unidentified photographs of architectural elements found on downtown buildings. The buildings are located in the downtown district, with the boundaries of Calhoun, Walnut, Ann, and Elm streets.
Narr said that all the details shown in the photographs are visible from a public street or sidewalk.
The contest involves identifying the name and/or address of the building on which the architectural detail appears. The deadline to complete the forms is 5 p.m. Friday, May 31.
Entries listing the correct location for all the features will be entered in a drawing for prizes offered by Main Street Chillicothe.
