CHS duo let set points get away at 5-2 in second
SPRINGFIELD » Chillicothe High School tennis Hornets Wade Dietz and Chase Reeter came up a bit short of victory in their Class 1 State Championships doubles play opener this morning (Friday, May 24).
The recent CHS graduates lost to Sohil Bhagat and Ben Abbas of Kansas City: Barstow 2-6, 6-7(6), Hornets head coach Aaron Douglas reported just after 11 a.m.
“They had some set points at 5-2 in the second set, but couldn't capitalize,” Douglas said of the Hornets’ pair. “It was a heartbreaker.”
In the first round of consolation play early this afternoon, Reeter and Dietz will go against Logan-Rogersville tandem of James Ethridge and Matthew Garland.
Also today (May 24), most of CHS state track-and-field meet qualifiers will be in action in the 2-day Class 3 meet at Jefferson City.
All Chillicothe track-event qualifiers – Erin Gilliland in the intermediate and low hurdles, the girls’ 400-, 800-, and 1,600-meters relays, and the boys’ 800-meters relay squad will compete in preliminary heats today, hoping to advance to tomorrow’s finals and virtually clinch a state medal via a top-8 finish.
In addition, Alec Whiteside threw in the shot put late this morning, while David Hershberger in the high jump, Lexi Snyder in the triple jump, and Paige Peters in the shot put were to compete this afternoon.
In addition to any CHS runners who move on to Saturday’s finals, Lady Hornets pole vaulter Lauren Jones and Whiteside in the shot put will compete tomorrow.
