Beat Odessa and Fulton before rain arrives, cancels rest of event at Marshall

MARSHALL  •  Chillicothe's junior American Legion baseball Cardinals beat Odessa, Fulton, and the rain Saturday. However, the rain did get in the last word.
On the first day of what was supposed to be a 2-day, round-robin tournament at Marshall, the Cardinals came away with a perfect 2-0 record after topping Odessa 9-6 in the morning and Fulton 6-5 in the afternoon.
However, the Chillicothe squad, now 10-8 on the season, was denied its chance to pursue the tournament title when at-times heavy and persistent rain swept across the state, forcing cancellation of Sunday's play in the tourney.
The junior Cardinals now will try to get in a home doubleheader against Macon tomorrow night at "June" Shaffer Memorial Park. The first game is slated for a 6 p.m. beginning.
