The "Home of Sliced Bread" bread baking contest, a tradition of Chautauqua for the past half-decade, found a new home this past Saturday as part of the Sliced Bread Jam Bluegrass Festival.
A panel of five judges selected the winners during a blind taste test using the criteria of appearance, texture and taste.
In the Regular Bread category, first place went to Kathi Lake, of Chillicothe, with a Cottage Dill Bread. Second place went to Pam Miller, of Chillicothe, with her White Bread. Honorable mention was awarded to Kathryn Ratliff, of Chillicothe, with her White Bread.
Pam Miller’s Cranberry Orange Bread took first place in the Sweet Bread category. Miller also took second place with a Caramel Apple Bread.
In the Kids’ Category, the first place prize was awarded to Memphis Pickering, of Braymer, Mo., with a Banana Bread. Honorable mentions included Faith Hollon and Grace Hollon, of Cowgill, Mo., and Cutter Pickering of Braymer, Mo.
