The Way I See It
My name is Dennis Miller and I am a lifelong resident of Kirksville, MO. I have been totally blind since birth and a sports fanatic just as long. I like all sports but love baseball and am a proud lifelong member of Cardinal Nation. It is my honor to be given the opportunity to write a blog for the Kirksville Daily Express and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Are the Texas Ranger gone now?  Is it OK to watch the Cardinals again?  For the first time this season the St. Louis Cardinals were swept losing all three games to the Texas Rangers.  The weekend started with Tyler Lyons last major league start for a while as the Cardinals mercifully sent him down to Memphis following a less than stellar outing.  Joe Kelly who so far this season has been cast in a mop up role did his part to keep the Cardinals in the game and earned himself a spot in the rotation by doing so.  Saturday’s game was a case of two bad pitches by Shelby Miller which allowed the Rangers to win.  Sunday’s game featured a three hour rain delay followed by a solid pitching performance by Adam Wainright but no offensive support from the Cardinals whose bats were pretty quiet all weekend.  The Rangers got excellent pitching of their own and were able to silence the Cards bats in a way that few teams have been able to do this year.  The Cardinals have a short two game series in Houston startingtomorrow and then head to the West Coast for games over the weekend with the A’s.

Over on the other side of the state the Kansas City Royals snapped a four game losing streak yesterday with a dramatic come from behind victory against the Chicago White Sox.  The Royals didn’t get overly great pitching this weekend but their bats appear to be coming around as they are scoring more runs per game than they have throughout most of the year.  Yesterday’s game in particular was a back and forth affair with neither team getting much in the way of pitching.  The Royals have the day off today before hosting the Atlanta Braves for a three game series.  I have no idea why this will be the second time the Royals and Braves have played this year.

Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals is tonight as the battered and bruised Chicago Blackhawks have a three games to two lead over the battered and bruised Boston Bruins.  I still predict this series will go all seven games.  Both teams are showing the affects of how intense this series has been with many of the top players for both teams hurting.

Martin Truex ended a long winless drought by winning yesterday’s road race at Sonoma, CA.  The course is probably the most difficult one they will race on all year and winning on that road course is quite an accomplishment.

Canadian James Hinchcliffe won his first IndyCar race yesterday as he won the Iowa Corn 300 in Newton, IA.  Hinchcliffe was then treated to a meal of corn on the cob with all the fixins before falling to his knees and pleading to be returned to civilization.

Game 1 of the College World Series is tonight as Mississippi State and UCLA begin their best of three series in Omaha, NE.  The last several CWS’s have featured teams from the SEC and Pac 12 squaring off for the title.

The Wimbledon tennis tournament got underway earlier today in London and will continue for the next two weeks.  Serena Williams has to be considered the favorite to win the women’s title but she is the only women’s tennis player whose name I can remember so she would be the favorite in my mind even if she wasn’t the actual favorite.  Her sister Venus is still around but she is quickly approaching the end of her career and I’m not sure if she is even playing in the tournament this year.

We’ll be back on Wednesday with another blog.  Thanks as always for taking the time to check us out and please take a moment to check out all the other excellent blogs on this site.  We’ll see you back here on Wednesday!
