  • At the regular meeting of the Chillicothe City Council last night (Monday), Parks and Recreation Director Josh Norris appeared before the council with a report on the progress of Chilli Bay Water Park.
Mayor Chuck Haney said the previous record for one-day attendance prior to the construction of Chilli Bay was 502. Norris said this past Friday and Saturday crushed that previous record.
“We had two summer school groups come Friday morning,” Norris said. “Braymer and Marceline, they each came in busloads. I believe there was 250 kids total in that. On top of that, Friday we saw 667 of actual swimmers. If you add those two together, that’s over 900 swimmers. Saturday, throughout the day, we had 905 swimmers. Those, I believe speaking with the mayor, are probably the all-time highs for our new water park and previous also.”
Norris said the waterpark is consistently seeing more than 400 individuals each day, with the facility having reached the 600 and 700 attendee mark a couple of times.
