Chillicothe is mentioned in the July/Autust Elks Magaine, as part of a seven-page feature titled, “The Rise of Bread in America.”
A sidebar story within the feature focuses on inventor Otto F. Rohwedder and his bread slicing machine. His machine was put to use at Frank Bench’s Chillicothe Baking Company bakery, and on July 7, 1928, Chillicothe became the first place in the world to sell commercially sliced bread.
