BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — After dropping their first two games in a weekend tournament sponsored by one of the state’s top American Legion baseball programs, the Chillicothe Cardinals junior-division Legion team built some positive momentum for this week’s Missouri District 2 playoff series against Trenton by decisively capturing their last two tourney outings.
The Cardinals rode the strong performance of Dylan Clark to a 9-0 5-inning triumph over St. Joseph in the Fike 499 Tournament yesterday after clipping the Medicine Man Skyhawks of Omaha, Neb., 9-4 Saturday afternoon.
Those victories offset a tourney-opening 8-2 loss to the host team and an 8-3 early-morning defeat by Sedalia’s Post 642 team Saturday.
Now 23-11 for the season, the Brent Minnick-coached club will go to Trenton tomorrow (Tuesday) evening for a 6 o’clock game to start the best-of-3 district playoffs series. Game two will be in Chillicothe at “June” Shaffer Memorial Park Thursday at 6 p.m.
