Events begin with truck and tractor pull on Friday
The 2013 Livingston County Fair will begin Friday, July 12, on the Litton Agri-Science Learning Center Campus grounds in Chillicothe. Events will be held throughout the week until the fair's conclusion on Friday, July 19. David Beck, 2013 Fair Board President, said that the purpose of the fair is to provide the best county fair possible for all residents of Livingston County.
"Our fair provides a gathering place for our county youth to showcase their products and skills developed throughout the year," Beck said. "It creates an educational and social opportunity to preserve and promote agriculture in our county while supporting the 4-H and FFA of Livingston County."
Clean-up of the Campus and fair set-up took place on Saturday, June 29. Beck said that fair preparation is in full gear, and that it is a year-long process with volunteers from 4-H and FFA members working to set-up as part of their contribution.
"4-H has over 400 members and the FFA member numbers are over 225," Beck said. "The Fair has a 15-person board that begins the work of overseeing the fair in September each year."
The TSPA, IFPA and NWMTPA co-sanctioned Truck and Tractor pull will set the fair into motion on Friday evening (July 12), with registration and sign-in beginning at 5 p.m. There is a $15 entry fee for those participating, and weigh-in at the Fairgrounds will begin at 6 p.m. Big tractors will start pulling at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the Truck and Tractor pull is $10 per person, and children under the age of six receive free admission. Tractor/truck drivers, along with one guest, receive free admission as well. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the event.
The following classes will be represented -- IAMO Pullers: 6,500-pound two-wheel-drive trucks, 4,000-pound Pro Street two-wheel-drive trucks, Pro Street 4x4 trucks and 7,500-pound Pro Stock tractors; IFPA Pullers: 5,700-pound Classic modified tractors, 9,500-pound Pro Farm tractors, 10,200-pound Pro Farm tractors, 10,500-pound Modified Farm tractors, 11,500-pound Farm Stock tractors and 6,200-pound Pro Stock 4x4 trucks; and NWMTPA Pullers: Pro Stock 4x4 trucks, 6,000-pound Hot Rod tractors, 8,500-pound Pro Farm tractors, 8,500-pound A Pump tractors, 9,500-pound P Pump tractors and 9,200-pound Limited Pro tractors open class.

Saturday's events will begin with the archery shooting contest at 1 p.m., and is expected to last until 3 p.m. Following this event, the BB/Pellet and Small Bore shooting contest will begin at 4:30 p.m., taking place at the Beck Home.
The Style Show Judging will start off Sunday's schedule of events, taking place at 1:30 p.m. Entry sheets for this contest must have been submitted by July 9. Following the show, registration for the Baby Contest will begin at 2 p.m. at the Expo Center, where the contest will open at 3 p.m. The Fashion Show will also be held in the Expo Center at 4 p.m., followed by the Fair Queen Coronation at 4:30, also in the Expo Center. All horses taking part in the Livingston County Horse Show must be on the grounds and all entries turned in at 4 p.m. before the show begins at 5 p.m. To finish the evening, Ray Perryman will present the Cowboy Sunday Service from 7-7:30 p.m.
Campers who have spots pre-assigned are invited to come in on Monday, July 15.
The Broiler Chicken Show will be held at the North Barn on Monday at 8 a.m. Activities will not begin again until 5:30 p.m., when judge orientation begins. Fishing at Litton pond will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Judging of the 4-H and FFA exhibits, as well as submissions from the Junior Helpers, will commence at 6 p.m. Monday. Hams in the Jenkins Building will take place at 6:05 p.m., and judging will continue in the evening as follows: entries from the FFA, Hale Happy Hustlers and Hale Clover Kids at 6:15 p.m.; entries from Show-Me and Dawn Sunrise Hustlers at 6:45 p.m.; entries from Liberty, Rich Hill Jr. Workers and Wheeling Happy Harvesters at 7:45 p.m.; entries from Independents and Bees at 8:15 p.m.; and entries from Double H at 8:45 p.m. Late judging is scheduled for 9 p.m., closing the schedule of Monday events once it is complete.
On Tuesday, July 16, the Expo Center will host the dog show at 8 a.m. Early hog arrival on the grounds will be allowed beginning at 5 p.m., following the completion of the dog show.
Poultry blood testing is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 17 and will go until 8:30 a.m. All birds must be in the barn by 8 a.m. Check-in for sheep, goat, rabbits and beef begins at 8 a.m., and all livestock must be in place by 11 a.m. Weighing of the lambs and goats begins promptly at 11 a.m., and all goats and sheep must be on the grounds by that time. Steer weigh-in will begin at 12 noon, and all steer must be on the grounds by 11 a.m.
The poultry show commences at 1 p.m. in the North Barn on Wednesday. The swine show will also begin at 1 p.m. Commercial booths will be set up in the Expo Center from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. while in the Litton Building, 4-H demonstrations and a 4-H entrepreneurship market will take place at the same time. Closing the evening will be the talent show, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Outdoor Arena. No piano will be provided for participants of this event.
Thursday, July 18 will commence at 8 a.m. with both the rabbit show in the North Barn and the swine show in the Expo Center. The goat show will follow the sheep show in the Expo Center. At 1 p.m., the dairy show will be held in the Expo Center, followed directly by showing of breeding cattle and feeder calves. The steer show will then take place at 3 p.m., also in the Expo Center. An ice cream social, sponsored by the 4-H Foundation, will begin at 5 p.m. and is expected to last until 6:30 p.m.
Registration for the Super Teen contest will be held from 12 noon until 6 p.m. in the Outdoor Arena, where the contest itself will take place at 6:30 p.m.
The Farm Bureau Breakfast will be held in the Shelter House beginning at 7 a.m Friday, July 19. The breakfast is free to exhibitors, and this event will kick off the final day of the fair. The Clover Kid Animal Parade will start at 9 a.m., followed by the bucket calf show at 10 a.m. in the Expo Center.
An appreciation picnic will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets to the picnic can be purchased in the concession area of the Expo Center. The release of non-livestock exhibits and bucket calves will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the release of rabbits and poultry from the North Barn. All other animals will be released after the completion of their species in the livestock sale, which will begin at 7 p.m.
There will be no live concert at the Livingston County Fair this year, but Beck said that there are a few interested parties working to put together a concert in upcoming years.
Clean-up of the fair will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 20. The Livingston County Fair Board is not responsible for any accidents that may occur while on the fairgrounds. No bikes, roller blades, skate boards, alcoholic beverages or dogs not being shown at the fair are allowed on the fair grounds. Any exhibitor who removes exhibits before release time will not be allowed to exhibit in the fair the following year. Straw is not allowed inside the barns, but it will be available in the tie-out area. All livestock pens must be cleaned by the exhibitor by noon on Saturday, July 20. No adults, non-4-H or non-FFA members will exhibit in show ring for any show classes. Livestock trailers must be parked at the High School, or taken home. Animals for sale cannot be advertised until after they have been judged. Advertisements cannot be bigger than a four-by-six inch index card. Lawn chairs are welcome at outdoor arena events. Seating will be provided for events in the Jenkins Expo Center.
